What does “Promotional Beta” mean and how long will it last?

Promotional Beta means we are previewing the Cure Your Panic software to the public, free of charge. During this preview period, we plan to work out any bugs that arise from use of the program and implement suggestions/feedback from our users. The length of the beta period depends on how quickly the kinks of the system are ironed out. Current expectations peg this at 2 months, meaning the promotional beta period will end around May 1st, 2008.

What is the Ask the Doctor forum?

Get self-help from an expert! Cure your panic was created by anxiety specialists with years of experience in helping people overcome problems with anxiety, fear, panic, social anxiety, and chronic worry. One of the forums available to you is the “Ask the Doctor Forum”. You can post questions about anxiety, how to use skills, or any other related question to a Clinical Psychologist to help you help yourself get over your anxiety!

Is Cure Your Panic therapy?

Cure Your Panic is not therapy, but rather an innovative self-help program. A major difference is that in therapy you work on your problems in person with a psychotherapist usually on a one to one basis. You become the therapist’s patient or client. Cure Your Panic is different in that it is an online program that teaches skills through Lessons, Forums, and Tools. You are no ones patient and the responsibility for getting better is up to you (not your therapist’s). Cure Your Panic is decidedly less expensive then psychotherapy, which can run between $100 and $200 per weekly session, (while Cure Your Panic is only $29.95 per month FREE (during promotional beta testing)). While Cure Your Panic should not take the place of a healthcare professional you see for your anxiety, you will learn specialized, scientifically derived skills to make changes for a lifetime!

Who should sign up for Cure Your Panic?

Anyone with significant problems with anxiety, fear, panic, social anxiety or chronic worry should enroll! The skills in Cure Your Panic are specially designed for these problems. Many people who join have an anxiety disorder, such as Panic Disorder, Agoraphobia, a Specific Phobia, Social Phobia, or Generalized Anxiety Disorder. However, you do not have to have an anxiety disorder to benefit from this program. The skills that you will learn are excellent for many forms of anxiety regardless of whether you have a true “anxiety disorder” or not.

What is an Anxiety Disorder?

Anxiety, fear, panic, and worry are all highly interrelated concepts. Technically fear is a reaction to a situation that has some real danger associated to it. Fear helps to mobilize your body to “fight or flee”. You can think of anxiety, panic, and worry as non-adaptive forms of fear in that by definition they occur when there is really nothing to be concerned about, but you have the reaction anyway. In this sense your anxiety serves no significant function. When this happens a lot and you begin to become distressed about your anxiety response, then it can become an anxiety disorder. In many people with anxiety disorders a cycle of Fear and Avoidance contribute to the maintenance and even worsening of their condition. Cure Your Panic helps you to stop this cycle and regain your life!

What is the difference between Cure Your Panic and a good book on Anxiety?

While there are many excellent books that describe similar techniques to overcome your anxiety, none of them, in our opinion comes close to Cure Your Panic. A huge difference is the on line nature of Cure Your Panic. You can use it night and day. You can interact with Anxiety Experts (in the Ask the Doctor Forum). You can talk to people who have similar problems and who are also learning skills to address these problems. You can learn first hand from others. Books don’t offer this kind of support. Another major difference are the sophisticated tools and monitoring aids you get from this program. With a click of a button you can see your progress, use specialized forms to teach you the skills effortlessly, and jump around the program. You also have weekly check-ins and weekly reviews of what you have learned. You have the power of the internet at your disposal! You can’t get that from a book!

Should I enroll in Cure Your Panic if I am taking medication for my anxiety?

Yes! Cure Your Panic is designed as a stand alone self help program, as an adjunct to therapy, or in combination with taking medication. While medication remains the most common treatment for anxiety disorders, controlled studies of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy have demonstrated it significantly reduces anxiety. Medication does not teach skills. In many of these studies Cognitive Behavioral Therapy was superior to medication (especially in preventing relapse)! Medication does not teach skills and consequently when people get off their medication there is a tendency towards relapse. It is completely OK to be on medication while you are enrolled in this program. Some people actually use this program as a way to get off of their medication.

Should I enroll in Cure Your Panic if I am in therapy?

Yes! Cure Your Panic works alone or in combination with therapy or medication. Clinical research on computerized self help programs have consistently demonstrated a significant reduction in anxiety. In other words, with a little help, you can teach yourself to overcome your anxiety. If you are in therapy, you have the best of both worlds!
